Parents

Parent code of conduct

Twelve commitments every Pistols parent makes. They're short, they're specific, and they're the reason our sideline is a good place for a kid to play.

  1. Let players playI will let my daughter play. I'll cheer her on when she does well and encourage her when she doesn't, and I will refrain from coaching from the stands.
  2. Communicate responsiblyFor any concern that isn't about safety, I will wait 24 hours before requesting a meeting with the manager, and I will discuss the issue calmly.
  3. Let coaches coachI will respect the coaches. If I have a concern, I will raise it in a civil manner with the head coach, outside the presence of players.
  4. Let umpires umpireI will accept the calls on the field and will not make negative comments to the umpires or about their calls.
  5. Understand it's a privilegePlaying for the Pistols is voluntary. Program fees grant participation and nothing more than being part of the team.
  6. Accept unequal playing timeI understand that playing time cannot be equal and that coaches determine roles.
  7. Stay out of the dugoutI will not enter the dugout or converse with the team during games, and I will prepare my daughter for that beforehand.
  8. Encourage ownershipI will support my daughter in taking responsibility for her own experience: her equipment, her preparation, and her conversations with coaches.
  9. Model the codeI will make sure my child follows the same standards of conduct that I've agreed to.
  10. Display sportsmanshipI will represent my community in a responsible manner, win or lose.
  11. Respect the facilitiesI will help keep playing areas and spectator areas clean and safe.
  12. Encourage positivelyI will avoid loud obnoxious noises and will not intentionally distract players during games.

This is a plain-language summary of the Pistols parental code of conduct. The signed version distributed by the program governs; ask your team manager for the current copy.
